David Evenson was born in Wichita, Kansas, November 16, 1938, to Thomas Narrie Evenson and Kathleen Mary (Gilman) Evenson. The youngest of four children, he moved, when he was six months old, traveling all over the western United State as his father followed construction jobs during the war years. The family finally settled for several years in Colorado until making the last move to Casper, Wyoming when David was 11 years old. He attended schools in Casper, graduating from NCHS in 1957 and went into construction as an Electrician/welder and began attending trade school at Casper College to earn his journeyman license.
He loved to bowl and was proud of his 300 Jacket. Another of his loves was hunting, Fishing and camping and Wyoming was his favorite place to do it all.
He also had a passion for coaching youth sports, and spent many years coaching kid's baseball. He never had a losing season and was justifiably proud of taking the thirteen-year-old All-Star team to the Regional finals in 1979. If kids were involved, in any sport, he couldn't keep from giving pointers and showing them ways to improve their swing or their batting stance or the best way to tackle without getting injured. He was also instrumental in setting up the youth wrestling program at the boy's club in the 70's. It was just how he was.
In 1961 he married Lois J. Palmer and they started their family and the whole family became part of his coaching years, making award patches and even flower pins for the team mothers since the baseball season always started on Mother's Day.
He died August 16, 2022, following a lengthy illness. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Thomas G. Evenson of Houston, Texas and James R. Evenson of Greeley, Colorado, nephews William Michael Evenson of Saginaw, Michigan and Kenneth McConnell of LaPorte, Colorado.
He is survived by his sister, Mary McConnell (Lee) and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving him is his wife or 61 years, Lois, his three children daughter Merri Evenson, son David (Leslie) Evenson Jr. and son Robert Eric (JaNette) Evenson all of Casper, as well as 5 grandchildren, Eric Mikel Evenson (Angela), Trevor Scott Evenson, Brandon Tyler Evenson, Rachel Janae Evenson and Logan Ray Evenson. David was always proud of all the kids and grandkids and didn't miss an opportunity to brag about them to his family and friends.
No service are planned. Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be interred in a private ceremony at a later day.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Assoc. would be preferred or just take a friend or loved one out for dinner and create a memory.
