Darlene M. Mckinzie

March 24, 1929 — November 12, 2020

"Wherever a beautiful soul has been there is a trail of beautiful memories."

Darlene Marie McKinzie, 91, of Casper, passed away Thursday November 12, 2020.

Born March 24, 1929 in Lakeview, Todd County, South Dakota; she was the daughter of the late James and Marie Richards. Her family moved to Casper from Crookston, Nebraska when she was nine. Darlene attended Willard school and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1948. While in high school she worked as an usher at the America theater. After graduation she worked at Wyoming Automotive Company.

She met her late husband Sherel "Mac" McKinzie at North Casper "Skateland" roller skating rink. They were married July 21, 1951 in Sun Valley, Idaho. In 1956 the oil boom relocated the family to Glendive, Montana. In 1964 she returned to Casper to raise her children.

Darlene was the matriarch and glue that kept her family together. Young at heart she was always ready for a new adventure, daring to go four wheeling at the age of 80. She enjoyed traveling, being a faithful baseball and softball fan to her son and grandsons, taking long walks, and designing any house making it a safe haven and a place to build memories.

She lived her life with humility and gratitude, never forgetting her mission to be a loving and
caring soul.

Darlene is survived by three children, Ruthie Cann, Tom (Kathy) McKinzie, Mac (Gia)
McKinzie; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sherelene "Shag" Compton; grandson, Michael Bowden; and was the last survivor in a family of seven children.

A service and celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
