Dan Norcross passed away at the home of his youngest son on Friday, August 12, 2011 surrounded by his family in Casper, Wyoming.
He was born October 27, 1922 in Arnold, Nebraska, the son of Roswell and Esther (Haskell) Norcross.
He grew up at Esterbrook, Wyoming near Laramie Peak where his parents had a homestead. He graduated from Glendo High School. He served his country in United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. While in training at Norman, Oklahoma, he met Patricia Maher, and they were married on April 10, 1946.
Dan established his family in Casper where he worked as a mechanic. He worked for Keith Thomas Motors. He was then employed at the Standard Oil Refinery for several years before being employed by NL McCullough.
Dan loved visiting with friends and enjoyed telling a good story. Puttering around his home, the yard, and the family cabin and fishing were his favorite pastimes. He loved feeding the "livestock," the birds. He was a member of the American Legion Post 2 and Holy Name Society. People say that he was a sweet man with a kind word for everyone. He had an incredible capacity for love right to the very end.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pat, son, Phillip and his wife Sue and grandchildren Keith, Caitlyn, and Wade of New Harbor, Maine, daughter, Susan and her husband Leland McDonald and grandchildren Clay and Kelly of Laramie, Wyoming, son, Chris Norcross of Copperas Cove, Texas and grandchildren Jennifer, Jeremy, Noah, and Caleb Norcross of Casper, son, Ross Norcross, daughter-in-law, Donna and grandchildren Shelby and Ryan of Fort Worth, Texas, daughter, Sarah and her husband, Brian Gates and grandchildren, Kimberly Gates of Surprise, Arizona, Andrea Guerra of Melbourne, Florida, Kaitlyn Gates and Adam Gates of Casper and son, Kevin and his wife Helen and grandchildren Adrionna, Bryce, Nicole, Cassidy, Anastacia, Joshua, Kristina, and Kade. He is also survived by grandchildren Tammy Hise, Eden Pitt, and Danny Denney, and great grandchildren Jaxson Warren, Kaylee McClure, Kainen, Kailah, and Eddie Guerra, and Hunter Pitt.
He was preceded in death by one son, Keith Vincent, and one daughter, Lisa Lea.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Daniel Norcross, 88, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 1401 CY Ave., with Father Robert Fox and Deacon Ed McCarthy as celebrants. Military honors will follow at the Norcross family property in Esterbrook, Wyoming.
Recitation of the Rosary will be Tuesday evening, August 16, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 710 East Second Street in Casper.
