Daniel Lester Astry, 59, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 1, 2009. He was born Jan. 4, 1949, in Big Fork MN, one of 12 children to Lester and Dorothy Astry.
He was raised in northern California. He served in the US Navy during Vietnam War until 1970. He later met and married Crystal Jarose and had two daughters.
He was employed by Security National Properties Inc. as property manager of The Aspens.
His hobbies were horse back riding, on his horse, Strawberry, with friends and family, playing bingo at Troopers bingo, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was survived by his two daughters, Priscilla Astry and Valerie and her husband Cody Harrison; four grandchildren, Bryan, Larry, and Teresa Harrison and Victoria Astry; his father Lester Astry of Washington; seven sisters and five brothers, Shirley Johnston, David, Dean and Dennis Astry, Susan Brown all of California, Sharon Gibson, Delbert and Sally Astry, and Sandra Ruth all of Washington, Donnie Astry of Alaska, Stella Astry of Oregon and Judi Andersen of Casper, WY; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Astry and aunt, Margaret Vierra.
Services will be held at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 7, 2009, and will be followed by a reception at Troopers Bingo Hall 1801 E."E" St. at 2 p.m.
He was very well loved and will be greatly missed.
