His family moved from Kansas to Torrington, Wyoming in 1938 where he graduated from Torrington High School in 1947. He attended Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas and sang in the famous Sterling Choir which toured and performed in major cities of the United States between 1947 and 1948
.
On November 23, 1949, he married the love of his life, Gwendolyn Schloatman, also from Torrington. They moved to Casper, where they lived and raised their three children.
Dale was a meat cutter for various stores and sold insurance for New York Life. He was known worldwide as a goldsmith and for the fine Jade jewelry he created. During many years of rock hunting with his wife, Gwen, he acquired an extensive Wyoming jade collection.
Dale was a man with many talents who was interested in learning all he could about every subject that came up. He was an amateur pilot who flew conventional and experimental aircraft, a beekeeper, a cook, a gardener, a painter and writer, and traveled extensively. He loved to golf, and visited courses all across America, playing with friends and especially his brother David, and his sons, Alan and Larry. He chose to live a very simple life, eating soup and crackers so that he could help the less fortunate, and was always there to help his many friends.
Dale is survived by a brother, David Schierling and his wife of Torrington, sons Alan Scherling and his wife of Phoenix, Larry Scherling of Casper, and a daughter, Valerie Kulhavy and her husband, also of Casper.
