CASPER -- A Celebration of Life service for Cynthia L. Bahr Balsom, 58, will be held Saturday, May 26, 2007 in the chapel of Highland Park Community Church at 2 p.m. with Pastor John Spears officiating. There will be a reception in the fellowship hall of the church at 12:30 p.m. prior to the services. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney, Neb.
She died May 20, 2007 in Casper.
She was born to John and Leona "Lee" Bahr on June 20, 1948 in Sidney, Neb. She was severely burned when she was 3 years of age. She was exceptionally compassionate towards burn victims. She enjoyed talking to children about not playing with matches and fire.
She grew up in Sidney and attended Sidney High School. She excelled in typing while in high school. She also played baseball and was known as "The Slugger." She always wanted to be a nurse and worked as a certified nursing assistant at the Sidney Hospital.
She married Larry Grabowski in 1964 and they had four children. In 1972, the family moved to Casper where they made their home.
In 1977, she married Ronald Balsom. They attended church at Paradise Valley Christian Church where she was baptized on Jan. 18, 1978.
She worked at Safeway and Albertson's as a checker and bookkeeper.
In 1992, she opened "Permanent Cosmetics by Cynthia Balsom." She was very successful and it gave her great pleasure working with people.
She had many talents and interests. She enjoyed scrapbooking, making paper, making cards, sewing, computers and had numerous home economic skills. She always tried to master new things. She would be interested in something such as faux painting and get books to teach her and practice until she mastered it.
She loved to be with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; her children, Phillip Grabowski and his wife of Sidney, Neb.; Sherry Tocco and her husband of Peoria, Ariz.; Jody Elkins of Casper; and Misty Mason of Litchfield Park Ariz.; two stepchildren, Randy and Ronda Balsom, their spouses and children; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, her mother, Lee Bahr, three sisters, Donna Bahr, Jodene Houser and Lori Borchert, a brother, John A. Bahr, all of Sidney, Neb.; two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, John W. Bahr, and a great-nephew.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Make-a-Wish Foundation or Firefighters Quest for Burn Survivors.
