Curtis (Curt) Helwick, 89, of Casper, passed away, September 10, 2013 at Poplar Living Center, Casper.
Curtis Walter Helwick was born in Erie, PA on July 25, 1924, the oldest of three children born to Theodore "Ted" Walter and Allegra Dorothy Sheeler Helwick. The family later moved to Boliver, OH where they spent about two years, then moved to Syracuse, NY where Curt graduated from high school in 1942. He then enlisted in the Air Force where he remained until the end of WWII.
While stationed in the Denver area he met Josephine "Jodi" Franks who was from Rawlins, WY. They were married on July 7th, 1945 in Golden, CO and moved to Ohio for a short time. Later they moved to Rawlins, WY where their three children were born and raised. Curt became the District Manager for Northern Gas at Rawlins, transferring to Casper in 1976 where he worked in the Purchasing Department at Kansas-Nebraska, retiring after 40 years.
Curt was a member of Kiwanis Club of Casper for many years and was able to go on the Wyoming Honor Flight in September of 2010. He was also Long time member of the Casper Antique and Collectors Club.
Jodi passed away and Curt married Barbara Case Keeble on Oct. 22, 1987 in Hawaii. They made their home in Casper with 17 winters spent in Lake Havasu City, AZ and summers traveling until Curt's health no longer permitted. They spent several years square dancing and doing genealogy.
Curt is survived by his wife, Barbara of Casper; two sons, Jon (Linda) Helwick of Greeley, CO. and Mark (Billie) Helwick of Denver, CO; and daughter, Leslie (John) Brant of Kennewick, WA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, two step-daughters and step-grandchildren, two sisters, Martha Lebold of Columbus, OH and Ruth Schoonmaker of Banning, CA. He was preceded in death by his first wife and parents.
No services are planned. Curt was cremated with remains buried both in the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery at Evansville, WY and the Rawlins cemetery with his first wife, Jodi.
