Curt Allen Smith, age 60, was born June 8, 1957 to Charles B. and W. Allene Smith. He was the middle son of three boys born to this union. He passed away March 26, 2018 from a sudden heart attack at his home.
Curt attended Willard Elementary School and East Junior High School in Casper before moving with his family to Gillette, Wyoming in 1972. He graduated from Campbell County High School in 1975. He left immediately to spend the summer at a Youth Conservation Corp Camp in the Hoback Canyon area near Jackson, Wyoming. Following this experience, which he enjoyed very much, he enrolled at Casper College for his freshman year. He returned to the Jackson Hole area to work for the US Forest Service in the Bridger-Teton area during the following summer. After his summer work, he enrolled at the University of Wyoming.
Returning to Casper, he worked for an oil field service company before deciding to join his father in his oil and gas leasing business in Gillette, Wyoming. Here he found his true calling and remained in the business as an Independent Landman for the rest of his life.
Although the death of his younger brother in 1982 followed by his parents' divorce in 1983 were difficult times, the oil and gas business and helping his immediate family were his chief interests in life. Curt's family will miss his keen intellect, honesty, integrity, and kindness and his many other special qualities. By all measure he was a successful business man and person.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Monte K. Smith, and his father, Charles B. Smith. Also, besides his grand-parents, he was preceded in death by his aunts, JoAnn Richter, Ruth Meyers, and Peggy Vogel.
He is survived by his mother, his brother, Roy C. Smith, his aunts, Nancy Schepler (Lloyd) of Kearney, NE, Mary Jane Bienhoff (Donald) of Omaha, NE, and Uncle, Scott Hogeland (Joan) of Benkelman, NE, and numerous cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, April 2, 2018 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions Chapel, 710 East Second Street in Casper with Pastor Mark Tippin Officiating. A Private Graveside for family will follow at Highland Cemetery.
