Crystal Marie Skelton, passed away July 31, 2009, after a lengthy illness in Thermopolis surrounded by her loving family.
Crystal was born Oct. 11, 1922 in Thermopolis to J. Bob and Mary Agnes (Peoples) White. She grew up in the Wind River Canyon with three brothers and six sisters. Crystal married James Edward Skelton on May 23, 1942 in Thermopolis. They spent their early life together on Copper Mountain living in a sheep wagon. While Jin was overseas during WWII, Crystal lived with her in-laws at their Lucerne Skelton Farm with two small children, Jim and Jaque Dee. While living in Thermopolis and Worland, the family was joined by Sandi, Bill C., Bonnie, Lily, Mari and Myra. They moved to the Skelton Farm in 1955 and that remained their home until moving toThermopolis in 1968.
Like many of that era, Crystal was a hard worker and dedicated her life caring for her family, extended family and friends. She was described as the "one who would give you the shirt off her back to help someone in need". She was an accomplished gardener, seamstress, enjoyed hunting big game as well as arrowheads, traveling, and being "Gramma Crys" and "Aunt Crissy" to many, many children. During the 1984-85 school year, Crystal had at least one grandchild in each grade K-12 in the Hot Springs County schools.
Survivors include her children, James R. (Darlene) Skelton, Thermopolis, Jacque Dee Johnson, Denver, CO; Sandi (Greg_ Halone, Laramie, WY; Bill C. (Pat) Skelton, Riverton; Bonnie (Don) Miller, Cheshire, CT; Lily (LeRoy) Hayes, Thermpolis, WY; Mari Riggs, Casper, WY: Myra (Gregg) Bennett, Powell; 26 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren and 7 great -great grandchildren. Surviving siblings include brothers, Butch(Shirley) White and Mick (Charlyne) White; sisters, Betty (Fred) Yeaman, Bonnie (Newt) Bleak and Mary Lou (Gene)McGee, sister-in-laws Ruth Ann (Sonny) Galovich all of Thermopolis and Marion White of Cheyenne, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother, James (Bud) White, sisters, Anna Watson, Alla Holthues, Dorothy (Duff) Hans, a special friend Mel Kindel and son-in-law, Wayne Riggs.
A family memorial to celebrate her life will be held Aug. 8, 2009 in Thermopolis. The family requests memorials be sent to Hot Springs County Museum, 700 Broadway, Thermopolis, WY in ther name of to the donors Choice.
