Cleta Thompson, who had been suffering with a prolonged illness, went to her eternal home to be with her husband of 54 years, James Thompson,
November 17, 2011. James had passed away just six months ago. Cleta was 81 years old.
• Cleta was born October 19, 1930 in Texas, the daughter of Joseph & Theresa Mitchell.
• After attending East Little Rock High school, Cleta went to Bob Jones University to obtain a degree in music as she was very active in
church and community choirs. She had a very beautiful voice and also played the piano. But, after a year of studying, she felt that she
would be better at teaching so transfered to Arkansas State Teachers College in Conwell, Arkansas. (The school is now University of Central
Arkansas)
We loved to hear her stories of college life and times with her friends after college.
• Cleta started her teaching career in a small town in Missouri. She specialized in Home Economics. She later moved to Belvideer, Ill.
After marriage to James, she changed to Elementary school teaching. Engineers seem to marry teachers and schools only need one Home Ec
teacher. After a long teaching career, she went to work for The Boeing Co. (Seattle, WA) and retired with James in 1995.
• Cleta was very active in Eastern Star in every state that she lived in. She's was a Past Worthy Matron and Grand Officer.
* After retirement, she enjoyed shopping of any kind (QVC was on speed dial), bingo, and her animals. James and Cleta spent a lot of their
retirement traveling in their RV.
• Although very strong and independant, Cleta was a very caring and loving person, with a wonderful sense of humor. Her daughters recall their
friends always wanting Cleta to be their mom. Her great-grandchildren always enjoyed stopping by for a quick hug and smile. She will be
greatly missed by her family and everyone that knew and cared for her.
• Cleta is survived by her two daughters Theresa Thompson of Casper, WY and Marie Tomberlin of Cheyenne, Wy; her grandaughters Ashley and
Kyleen Johnson of Casper, WY and her great-grandchildren Michael, Savannah, Addison, and Elijah James also of Casper, WY. She is preceeded
in death by her parents, her brother Conrad Mitchell and her husband.
