It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Christopher John (CJ) Swenson, who departed from this world in June 2023. He was born to Kenneth Swenson and Lisa (Mike) Boe in March of 1985.
Throughout his life, CJ Swenson had a deep love for learning and a diverse range of artistic and literary pursuits. Even at a young age, his fascination with knowledge was evident, as he eagerly requested workbooks, coloring books, and flashcards for his sixth birthday. This passion for learning continued to flourish as CJ taught himself to play the guitar and drums during his formative years. As he grew older, his artistic interests evolved, and he discovered a talent for sketching and oil painting. "The Birth of Poetry" stands as a testament to CJ's profound interest in art and abstract academia.
CJ's educational journey began at Sagewood, followed by Centennial Junior High, and Kelly Walsh High School. His thirst for knowledge led him to Seattle Pacific University, where he embarked on a transformative experience.
During his time at Seattle Pacific University, CJ had the privilege of participating in an enriching study abroad program in China along with a group of fellow students. This opportunity allowed him to immerse himself in a different culture, broadening his perspectives and igniting his passion for global understanding.
Throughout his university years, CJ demonstrated remarkable leadership skills and a dedication to fostering inclusivity. He served as the diversity ambassador, contributing to initiatives that promoted cultural awareness and appreciation on campus. This involvement led him to become the interculture senator, actively advocating for international students and fostering an environment of acceptance and unity.
His commitment to serving others propelled him further, and CJ successfully ran for the office of vice president of finances. In this role, he exhibited exceptional financial awareness and played a crucial part in managing the university's resources. CJ's leadership was not only marked by his accomplishments but also by his genuine care for the well-being of his peers and the overall community.
CJ graduated with great distinction, being awarded the esteemed title of Maga Cumae Lata. He earned his degree in both philosophy and economics, a testament to his intellectual curiosity and multidisciplinary approach to learning. CJ's academic achievements spoke to his unwavering dedication and his drive to acquire knowledge in various fields.
CJ's true gift was his genuine love for people and his innate desire to help others. He possessed a remarkable capacity to see beyond superficial appearances, embracing individuals for who they truly were. This compassionate nature touched the lives of countless people, leaving a lasting impact both during his youth and throughout his adult life.
In recent years, CJ spent much of his time downtown, hanging out at his favorite spots such as Metro Coffee shop, Art 321, Wind City Books, and the library. These places, among others, held special meaning for him and allowed him to connect with his community and the arts that he so treasured.
CJ's memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends, who find solace in the knowledge that he is now in the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Although his presence will be deeply missed, they take comfort in the belief that they will be reunited with him one day.
CJ is survived by his loving mother, Lisa (Mike) Boe, and his five brothers, Bo Swenson, Blake Jackson, Jesse Wock, Trust Lopez, and Bryce Boe, who were blessed to grow alongside him. He also leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces, Grandmother Flossie Reeb, Grandmother Gina Montez, Grandfather Roert Swenson, and numerous aunts and uncles. CJ spent a significant amount of time with his uncle Danny Montez Jr., his aunt Shelie (Leroy) Erickson, and great uncle Gordon Barnum. He had numerous cousins and great cousins some that he had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with growing up, Danny III, Dominic, McKayla, Jayden Montez, Shawn (Beth)and Ryan Opitz, Debbie (Toni) Salvador, Megan (Brad) Cannon, and Steven Salvador. CJ was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Swenson, as well as his grandparents Betty Swenson and Daniel Montez Sr., Garry Reeb. Additionally, he was preceded in death by, Great Uncle Steven Montez, Aunt Kathy (Frank) Hernandez, Aunt Babs Barnum, Cousin Marty Barnum, and nephew Chase Lopez.
The legacy of CJ Swenson will live on through his loving family, friends, and all of those who are fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. While his physical presence may be gone, the enduring beauty of his writing and artwork ensures that his memory lives on, forever etched into the hearts and minds of those touched by his extraordinary talent.
A celebration of CJ's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Restoration Church, 411 S Walsh Dr, Casper, WY 82609.
