Christena K. Garrett, 61, passed away peacefully at her home in Evansville, Wyoming on Sunday, September 29th 2013. She was born April 7th 1952 to Doris (Ashton) Sibbett and Delmar Sibbett in Logan, Utah. Chris grew up in Logan, Utah alongside her older sister Delene Sibbett.
At the age of 32 Chris moved to Dubois, Wyoming with her three children: Tabatha Faith Hunley, Robert Ryan Hunley, and Robert "Bob" Hunley. After divorcing in 1994, Chris worked and provided for her three children on her own as a single parent throughout their teenage lives.
Chris met her soon-to-be husband, Byron Garrett, in the Dubois fall hunting season of October 1996 and they eventually married in September of 1997. She moved to Casper soon thereafter and spent the next 16 wonderful years of her life alongside her soul mate, Byron Garrett. There, she lived and devoted her life to her marriage and the continued happiness of her children. Above and beyond her life goals, which were all met, were the amazingly charitable actions she followed through with. Namely, throughout her entire 11-year career at Wal-Mart in Casper she took a lot of pride and dedication in orchestrating fundraising events and recycling to benefit the welfare of others. With the money raised at the end of each year Chris and Byron would buy presents for less fortunate children. Along the way, these presents were surprisingly delivered to hospitals, shelters, institutions, and other community locations.
She had many interests both indoors and outdoors. Indoor interests included crocheting, puzzle framing, drawing, taking care of her beloved plants, watching movies and cooking. She had a very large movie selection and always added to the collection throughout the year as new releases came out. She always had an interest in forensics and enjoyed many of the shows on television both fictional and non-fictional. You could look in any corner of her home and see something she had crocheted. She was a very talented artist and would draw intricate pictures to help support her charitable actions. One hand-drawn picture in particular was requested by a family who had seen some of her work. Their daughter was terminally ill and after receiving the picture, she carried it with her until the day she passed. This picture was laid to rest with the little girl. Chris was very touched by this and talked about it often. She was very passionate about her plants, as Byron once explained, when she moved to Casper to live with him, the first load consisted only of her plants. We always found laughter and joy in this. Homemade cooking recipes included caramel popcorn balls, fudge, bread, scones, and deep dish pizza.
Outdoor interests included a variety of Dubois community based activities. Chris was the Dubois T-ball, Minor League and Little League coach of all three of her children's teams throughout their lives. This encompassed many 1st place championships and All Star appearances. She also umpired games she did not coach. She was an avid hunter and was known as one of the better woman hunters in town. She was food for a 2,300 yard shot to harvest an antelope, deer, or elk and did this many times. These were the kinds of shots most men could not make.
The one thing in life Chris loved above all others were the family holiday times spent at home. She always made of devoted her time to the happiness of her children and grandchildren. These were special times for her and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 16 years, Byron Garrett of Evansville, Wyoming; daughter, Tabatha Hunley of Evansville, Wyoming and her children Justin, Kasey and Brittney; son, Robert Hunley of Morgantown, West Virginia and his wife Jennifer Hunley and their children Sierra and Savannah; son, Justin Hunley of Manhattan, Montana and Michelle Charbonneau and their children Arlyn and Hayleah. She is also survived by her sister Delene Sundstrom of Smithfield, Utah and her family along with many half-brothers, half-sisters, nieces and nephews.
