Charlotte J. "Chuck" (Sickels) Smith, 83, of Evansville passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 21, 2017. She was born in Wapello County, Iowa on September 4, 1934 to Ralph F. and Daisy L. (Thomas) Sickels. Chuck and her family spent her early years in Iowa before moving to Nebraska. The family lived in several towns before settling in Crawford where she met Raymond. They were married June 14, 1952 and began a 45 year journey filled with love and happiness. Raymond and Chuck lived in various towns in Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming before moving to Evansville in May of 1973. Chuck was an avid bowler and enjoyed bowling on several leagues. She also played pinochle on a regular basis and made many lasting friendships from those activities. Some of Chuck's favorite activities include gardening, knitting, crocheting, reading, camping and traveling with Raymond and other family members. She really enjoyed spending time with family. Chuck was an honest and forthright person with a great sense of humor. She was also a good listener and many people, both friends and family, sought her advise. During her working years, she drove a school bus and was a bookkeeper. Chuck enjoyed both types of work.
Chuck was proceeded in death by her parents and her husband Raymond.
She is survived by her 2 sisters, Gladys Mues of Bartley, Nebraska and Betty Fuentes of Mills, Wyoming; 3 children, Ralph (Virginia) Smith of Endicott, NY, Jean (Ken) Roesler of Gillette, WY, and Dennis (Toni) Smith of Bar Nunn, WY; 6 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
Chuck will be missed by all.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home with public viewing prior to the service. A reception will follow at the Mills Community Center on 4th and Wasatch.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Hospice.
