Charles Henery Weckwerth Jr, 82 of Casper, Wyoming passed away on February 26, 2024. Charles was born in Burchard, Nebraska on October 21,1941 at home to Charles Weckwerth Sr and Helen Bitting. He moved to Powder River, Wyoming at 18 months and spent the rest of his 80+ years in the Natrona County Area.
Growing up he learned the value of hard work, family, and friends. He carried these values throughout his life. He graduated from Natrona County High School in 1960. In 1965 Charles was drafted into the US Army to serve in Vietnam. Upon his return he met and married JoAnn Weckwerth (Kagie) in 1968. They resided in Casper for 55 years and brought 2 children into the world (Laura Hartwig & Dennis- Arvada CO and Tom Weckwerth & Candace -Midland, TX).
Charles was known for his work ethic and the meticulous way he kept all things important to him. Charles has quite the diverse work and career background. He started that journey working in the little local store in Powder River Wyoming from the time he was a kid until he was drafted in 1965. He served 2 years in the US Army from 1965-1967. When he returned from the Army, he drove Truck for Wonder Bread (1967-1970). He then started his career in the oil and gas industry, even though his employment name changed he worked in the same location (1970-1993) ending with the company Permian Pipeline. His duties included hauling crude oil and working as a Meter Prover. He was proud that he was known for his "numbers always being accurate". He then retired in 1993 and did various jobs in the same industry. His work then merged into what he loved and worked for the Wyoming Game and Fish doing creel surveys (2005-2008). In (2005) he launched "Charlie's Guide Service" and work no longer seemed like work. He worked his tail off sharing what he loved, fishing and the history of Wyoming with those across the US.
Charles was blessed with 5 Grandson's (Chris Weckwerth & Shantel of Casper; Ryan Weckwerth & Sydnie of Casper; Alex Weckwerth of Midland TX; Tristan Hartwig of Arvada CO, and Keegan Black of Midland TX ) and 3 great-granddaughters. There were many others he considered "his kids" including nephews, friends of his kids and grandkids.
Charles had a passion for family, fishing, hunting, the outdoors, and walked the life of "let others see Jesus in you". An indication of the richness of his life is how he was loved by everyone he met. Charles was genuine, he didn't know a stranger. He would give anyone the shirt off his back that needed one or thought they did. Charles had a great love of the outdoors and Wyoming, which he passed to all his kids, and "other kids".
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, sister Evelyn Wood, and many friends and family members.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Highland Park Community Church. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM with a graveside service at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery to follow.
