Charles Richard "Dick" Busby was born January 11, 1930, in St. Francis, Kansas to John and Lelia Busby. He grew up during the Dustbowl & Depression in the farm country of eastern Colorado and western Kansas. His mother died when he was 5 and he was farmed out to relatives. A modest man, often of few words, his life was straight-forward with a strong work ethic -- you go to work, come home to your wife and take care of your family.
On April 29, 1951, Dick married Peggy L. Shaver and left for Army training and Korea. Upon his return, he & Peggy raised a family of 5 sons and 3 daughters, teaching kids through Scouts, 4-H and church. Dick's management of Foster Lumber yards required relocating the family several times. After transferring to Lander, Dick found the Wind Rivers to be a perfect place to raise the family in the outdoors - camping and backpacking, hunting and exploring in his beloved dune buggy. To stay in Lander, he left Foster and went to work at US Steel until it closed in 1983.
Dick and Peg moved to Casper in 1984 where he retired.
Dick loved babies, his family, ice cream and exploring the mountains in his dune buggy. He always wanted to see what was over the next hill. He was a volunteer fireman and past Master in the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by Peggy, his wife of 64 years; eight children, Ronna (Dean) Boril, Mike (Sharon) Busby, Kurt (Moira) Busby, Kerry (Brent) Shaeffer, Joe (Nicole) Busby, Bob (Maureen) Busby, Becky (Rollie) Schlenker, Andy (Mary) Busby; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; brothers Willard and Sam and a sister Sharon.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Jean and Sandra and brothers, Don and Jerry.
A Memorial Service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 5, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Casper. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in Dick's name to Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions or the First United Methodist Church.
