Charles Duane Homolka finished his earthly course on December 11, 2015 after a long bout with emphysema. Charlie was born in Ft. Collins, Colorado, January 10, 1941, to Francis "Frank" and Frances (Pettera) Homolka. Charlie was the 5th of 8 children and grew up in Fort Collins. He met Marla Jane Jerkins through mutual friends and they were married on October 30, 1961. Together they had three children, a son and two daughters.
Charlie was a house painter, as were his brothers, and eventually started his own business in Fort Collins. While painting for a friend who built houses in Casper during the "boom" in construction, he decided it was time for a change and moved his family to Casper in 1977. After trying his hand at building houses, he decided to go back to what he knew he did best, painting. He continued in his business until he was forced to retire because of his health.
He loved "the territory", as he called Wyoming, and made many friends here, never regretting his decision to move here albeit to the dismay of some of his family. Charlie had a great but odd sense of humor and always enjoyed a good laugh whenever and where ever he could get one. He especially enjoyed the looks he got with his beat up old hats, and was seldom seen without one.
He enjoyed and dabbled in car racing, but decided it was too costly for him to pursue, both in money and time. So he settled for watching races. He liked to work on cars when he was able. His hobby was puttering around in his garage or the yard. He also was a Bronco fan since their inception in the late 50's, remaining a loyal fan through their bad years as well as good ones.
He loved being able to study the Bible and did so often, especially once he consecrated his life to the Lord. Learning about God and His plan brought pleasure and comfort to him. He kept his love for and faith in the Lord until his death, and was ready when God decided it was his time.
Charlie is survived by his best friend and companion for 54 years, Marla; son, Cecil (Jennifer) Homolka; daughters, Caryl (Tony) Cercy and Cayla Homolka; along with five grandsons, Cole and Cuylar Cercy, Sean Homolka, and Jay and Devon Michel; one granddaughter, Cooper Cercy; and his three brothers, Leo (Sherri) Homolka of Wanatchee, WA, Robert "Bob" (Patty) Homolka and Glenn Homolka both of Fort Collins, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene and John Homolka; and his sisters, Anita Stouffer and Dorothy Greybar.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at Newcomer Funeral Home Chapel. Charlie would appreciate any donations be made to Colorado Bible Student Ecclesia, C/O Ms. Lana Turner, 2105 Trollhaugen Ln., Steamboat Springs, CO 80487 or to Central Wyoming Hospice.
