Charles "Jack" Box Sr. died peacefully surrounded by his family at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper on January 16, 2012. He was 80 years old.
Jack was born June 25, 1931 in Deer River, Minnesota, the fifth of ten children of Tom and Molly Box. After graduating from high school, Jack served aboard the USS Reho both during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Navy, he attended Casper College and later received a BS and Master's degree from Black Hills College in Spearfish, SD. While attending college, he worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad and Prairie Publishing in Casper. He was employed with the Natrona County School District for 32 years as a teacher and principal. He retired in 1989. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, the Elks Club, and Christ United Methodist Church.
His quick wit, playfulness, and sense of humor will be missed by those who knew him. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, carpentry, tinkering, and spending time at his cabin in the Bighorns and his winter home in Quartzsite, AZ.
Jack is survived by Faye, his wife of 55 years and his children Chuck "C.J." (Laurie) Box of Cheyenne, Kelly (John) Andrus of Oakes, ND; Sherri (Rick) Vest of Casper; and Kurt (Jo) Box of Casper and his grandchildren Becky, Molly, and Roxanne Box; Whitney and Zackary Andrus; Cory and Brendan Vest; and Riley and Ryan Box. He is survived by a brother and three sisters.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 20, 2012 at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery Chapel followed by a gathering at Christ United Methodist Church, 1868 S. Poplar St. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice, 319 Wilson St., or a charity of the donor's choice.
