CASPER -- Private services will be held for Charles Francis Bennett, 78, who died Jan. 20, 2008, at his residence in Casper.
He was born Dec. 8, 1929, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Glen L. Bennett and Florence Belle Fields.
He was a very forgiving person. He always accepted everyone he met with an open mind and even if he was hurt in some way, he'd turn the other cheek and still extend his hand in friendship. Some people might see this as a weakness, but he felt it was better to forgive than to turn into a hateful and angry person.
He served his country in the Iowa National Guard with distinction and pride. His pride in serving his country was passed down to his eldest son. They both served their country not because they had to but because they felt a sense of pride in doing their duty.
He was not a selfish man. There were many times when he made personal sacrifices for his family. He continued to wear a pair of shoes with a hole in the sole so that his eldest son could have the baseball glove he wanted.
He did not judge his children in their youth or as adults but stood by them to work towards a solution of the problem.
He drew his strength from his family and his family was his heart.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Bennett of Casper; four daughters, Karen Ann Fuller of Wheatland, Florance Ellen Dezell of Atkins, Iowa, April Crow of Casper, and Kimberly Kay Walter of Woodland Park, Colo.; two sons, Steven Ray Bennett and Charles F. Bennett, both of Marshalltown, Iowa; two sisters, Louise Rockhold of Waylin, Mo., and Florence Easten of St. Anthony, Iowa; three brothers, Richard Bennett of Marshalltown, Iowa; Robert Bennett of Ethel, Mo., and John Bennett of Marshalltown, Iowa; 30 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Because his wife is very allergic to flowers, the family requests contributions to Central Wyoming Hospice, 319 S. Wilson, Casper, 82601.
Newcomer Family Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
