Cathy Ann Smith

April 14, 1960 — January 16, 2024

With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Cathy Ann Smith, a beloved mother to Gail Chappell, Krista O'Brien (Kevin), and Jennica Dean (Ryan), and a cherished grandma to Layla, Jaxson, Maggie, Landon, Wyatt, Akasha, and Shayla. Cathy peacefully passed away on January 16, 2024, at the age of 63, after bravely facing the challenges of COPD and Heart Disease. She earned her wings to join the angels, leaving a void in our hearts.

Born on April 14, 1960, in Miller, South Dakota, Cathy was the daughter of David and Charlene Smith of Douglas, Wyoming, and loving sister to Mike Smith (Deb), Ruth Magnuson (Dave), and Liz Towle (Aaron). Settling in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, after high school, she devoted the majority of her life to raising her children. Struggling as a single mother, tirelessly raising her kids, she always wanted what was best for them. Towards the end, she sought solace and became closer to the Lord to find peace.

"they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." - Isaiah 40:31

While she didn't always open herself to others, when she did, her contagious laughter, infectious smile, and wonderful sense of humor left a lasting impression.

Despite her family's grief, they choose to honor Cathy's spirit by remembering her as a creative soul with a passion for drawing, painting, crafting, gardening, and the serenity of the beach. She found joy in antiquing and cherished the companionship of animals, especially dogs.

Describing Cathy as someone who peacefully passed away wouldn't be accurate; she never stopped fighting. Her determination, resilience, and strength were truly inspiring. Cathy's perseverance serves as a testament to what genuine strength looks like. Though she may no longer be with us, her unwavering spirit lives on, and the ocean waves will echo the timeless beauty of her soul.

She recently posted this, "I have been many women in my lifetime. I have been the protector and the provider, I have been the lover and the fighter, but the woman within I value the most will always be the survivor." - S.L. Heaton
