Caryl Margaret (Kupfersmith) Gurtler, of Casper,WY, passed away Nov. 25, 2016 at the Wyoming Medical Center. Caryl was born Sept. 4, 1930 north of Home City, KS, the third child, second daughter of Louise (Wullschleger) and Frank Kupfersmith.
She attended Midway Country School District 130 and graduated from Marysville Kansas High School with Honors in 1948. Following graduation she lived in Marysville working 4 years at the Marshall County Courthouse as a bookkeeper in the Treasurer's office and 2 years as the Deputy Register of Deeds.
On Aug. 3, 1952 she and Glen Baker Gurtler were married. They farmed south of Beattie, KS for 6 years where their four children were born. They moved back to Marysville where Glen worked with the Foster Lumber Company for 3 years, then to Washington, KS where Glen managed the lumber yard for 9 years and built a home there. They then moved to Glenrock, WY. Caryl worked as a bookkeeper at the Foster Lumber Company in Washington, KS and Glenrock, WY and later at the KN Gas Company in Glenrock. After retiring they built a home in Glenrock which they enjoyed and did much traveling over the USA until Glen passed away on July 15, 2004.
Over the years Caryl did a lot of sewing for children and grandchildren and later for others and the Senior Center. She was an active member at Grace Lutheran Church for many years.
She loved her children and grandchildren and was very proud of all of them! Survivors include her children Bruce (Rebecca) Gurtler of Casper, Amy (Randal) Weiss of Cheyenne, Gail Rider of Douglas and Brian (Lisa) Gurtler of Gilbert, AZ, 5 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 3 step-great grandchildren, her brother Donald Kupfersmith of Aurora, NE and sister Mary Simpson of Montesano, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers; Frederick Kupfersmith, Frank Kupfersmith, and sister Lois Holm.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church, 315 CY Ave, Casper, WY 82601. Services will start at 10:00am with Rev. Brenda Baalhorn officiating. Inurnment will take place privately at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
