CASPER -- Funeral services for Caryl Stanley Alexander, 84, will be held at First United Methodist Church in Casper on Tuesday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Bill Moore of First United Methodist Church officiating.
Viewing is today from 2 to 4 p.m., at Newcomer Family Funeral Home.
He died Nov. 2, 2005, at Wyoming Medical Center after a long illness.
He was born in Ft. Collins, Colo., Sept.12, 1921. He attended elementary and high school in Steamboat Springs, Colo. He did his undergraduate work at Colorado State University in music education and completed his master's degree in music at the University of Wyoming.
He married Bonnie Louise Hallar on June 4, 1955 and they just celebrated their 50th anniversary this summer.
He taught music education, both choral and band (elementary, junior high and high school) in Lander from 1946 to 1959. He then moved to Casper and taught band and orchestra in Casper schools from 1959 to 1984. In his nearly 40-year career, he gave literally hundreds of Wyoming students a lifelong appreciation for music. He continued to play in the Casper Municipal Band through the summer of 2005.
He was twice a past president of the Wyoming Music Educators Association, National Music Educators Association and served as chairman of the band for All Northwest Bands in 1963. He had been a member of the Golden K Kiwanis International Club for more than 20 years.
After his music, his greatest joy in life was fly fishing or any kind of fishing; hunting was definitely second. In recent years, he and his wife traveled throughout the United States.
Survivors include his wife of Casper, two sons, Michael Alden Alexander and David Gregory Alexander, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society for research.
