Bruce Allan Stong
December 28, 1937 – May 25th, 2024
Bruce Stong, age 86 of Casper, WY passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, May 25th after an extended illness. He was surrounded by his family and friends.
Bruce was born in Muncie, IN to Sarah “Sally” Harrington and Kenneth Stong.
He graduated from Muncie, Central High School in 1956. He attended Ball State University for a year, and then transferred to Central Bible College in Springfield, MO.
Bruce enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and then Ft. Carson, CO. He held several positions in the Army; he was Chaplin’s Assistant, Company Clerk, and was a secretary to General Johnson.
After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to Central Bible College in Springfield, MO to finish his BA.
From there, Bruce and his young family moved to wherever the Lord led them. He was a youth pastor at Faith Assembly of God in Anderson, IN. From there, they moved to Worland, WY and he pastored First Assembly of God Church. After seven years in Worland, he was led to move to Casper, WY and built and pastored Paradise Assembly of God Church. He and his family spent 10 years in Casper. After his children graduated from Natrona County High School, Bruce moved to Mountain Home, ID. There he pastored the Assembly of God Church. After his time in Idaho, he returned to Indiana where he became affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
Bruce pastored several churches in the Muncie area. He was also involved with serval programs within the Methodist Conference such as The Single Parent and Blended Family ministry.
Over the years, in addition to being a pastor, Bruce worked several other jobs, as he put it, “to support his pastoring habit.” While in Anderson, IN he worked for Credit Acceptance as an investigator. In Worland, he worked in a sugar beet factory. In Casper, he worked as a substitute teacher, had a candy company called Absolutely Nuts, and even worked with his sons at CY Car Wash. He also held several other odd jobs over the years.
After being retired for a few years, he and his second wife, Sylvia, made the decision to return to Casper, WY, which is where they first met.
Bruce was proceeded in death by his parents, Kenny and Sally Stong and brother Merrill Stong of Muncie, IN.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sylvia Stong, brother Doug Stong (Jeanie) of Yorktown, IN, daughter Deborah Hickman (Greg) of Benson, NC, son Bruce Allan Stong II of Yorktown, IN, son Kevin Stong of Aurora, CO, daughter Christina Rogers (John) of St. Louis, MO, stepdaughter Renae Thayer (Mark) of Riverton, WY, stepdaughter Michelle Gould (Brad) of Casper, WY, stepson Jeremy Hill (Samantha) of Buhl, ID, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, great nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends.
Bruce’s service will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 710 E 2nd St, Casper, WY 82601 at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29th, 2024. Open visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. There is a reception to follow at Grace Bible Baptist Church, 405 S Park St, Casper, WY 82601.
