CASPER -- Brent D. Russell, 60, known to family and friends as "Bud," died Dec. 11, 2007.

Born on Nov. 15, 1947, in Enid, Okla., to John M. and Theda M. (Oden) Russell, he attended schools in Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico and Utah as well as the St Andrews School for Boys in Alexandria, Egypt before moving to Casper in 1959.

He graduated from Natrona County High School in 1965.

He earned an associates degree in electronics from Casper College in 1967. He used this education by joining the Navy where he served for six years onboard the USS Saratoga and the USS America as an electronics engineer maintaining the ship¡¯s guidance systems.

His active duty took him to the Mediterranean and to the South China Sea off Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He worked for Pacific Power and Light in Wyoming and Oregon for 20-plus years before retiring in 1999. During that time, he invented a vector analysis program (PowerTools) for electrical meter reading for which Pacific Power recognized him with an award ceremony in Portland, Ore.

After his retirement, he started his own internet company, The MeterGuy, from which he sold the PowerTools program to companies across the U.S.

From his high school days he always loved riding his motorcycle and made several cross-country trips on his cycle. He thought nothing of getting on his motorcycle and taking trips of hundreds of miles at a time. He was also a dedicated amateur photographer who loved taking pictures of natural beauty such as flowers, sunsets and unusual rock formations.

He is survived by his mother and father of Glenrock, his brother, John M. Russell Jr., and his wife of Syracuse, N.Y., and his fiancâÁ Theresa Dooley, of Casper.
