Betty passed away peacefully on June 23, 2013 at Central Wyoming Hospice.
Betty W. Wixson Stoddard was born on April 27, 1922 in Toronto, Canada to Clarabel Theresa Smith and Fredrick Charles Wixson.
The family moved to Alpena, Michigan when Betty was four years old. There her father had accepted the position of Director of the Alpena Chapter of Boy's Club of America. She spent her summers assisting her parents at the Alpena Boy's Club summer camp for under privileged children as well as those who could afford it. It was because of her training there that she was able to become a rancher's wife with no amenities. Betty became a U.S. Citizen in 1933. She completed her schooling there and graduated High School. There she also met her future husband, Ivan L. Stoddard. He was stationed in Alpena with the Coast Guard during WWII. He was discharged and came home to Wyoming. Two years later Betty joined him and they were married December 7, 1947. They were later sealed in the Mesa, Arizona Temple.
They ranched up Mormon Canyon out of Glenrock on Willow creek for six years. It was there that their son Gordon was born in Douglas in January 1952. After being snowed in for six to eight weeks at a time they decided to lease a ranch on Deer Creek out of Glenrock.
While they were ranching on Deer Creek she worked at the Glenrock Post Office and later at the Mills Post Office. After ten years of ranching, her husband decided to work in the insurance business and started working for the Farm Bureau Insurance Company and they were moved to Casper by the company. Betty worked as a dental assistant and later became certified. They were moved to Torrington by the company where she sold real estate and became a broker. Later the Farm Bureau Ins. Co. moved them back to Casper. Her husband opened an insurance office in Glenrock and Betty continued to sell real estate in Glenrock and Casper.
Her husband passed away in November 2000. They had been married 53 years.
After her husband's death she continued working at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club where she was a door greeter. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. She took pride in having her hair look beautiful. She was Employee of the Year for Wal-Mart and Sam's Club.
Betty was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held may positions in the church. She was also a member of Rebecca Lodge and had been Noble Grand twice. She was also President of the Dental Assistant Association.
Betty enjoyed dancing, listening to music and camping with her family, being with people and going on trips with her family.
People enjoyed listening to her tell stories about her growing up years with her parents and stories about her early married years and how she learned to be a rancher's wife.
Survivors are her son Gordon and his wife Debbie of Glenrock, a daughter Ann Crawford of Lake Tahoe, Nevada. She is also survived by six grandsons, one granddaughter, 7 great grandsons and 3 great granddaughters, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and sister.
