Betty Puettman, 85, beloved mother and grandmother passed peacefully at home on Sunday, November 18th. Betty is loved, missed without measure, and will be remembered forever.
Betty Valonteen was born May 3, 1927 to Leavo and Opal Doty in Beresford, South Dakota. Betty spent her early years on the family farm, and moved to town for high school. During World War II Betty moved to Washington State to help support the war effort. Betty was very proud to have worked at Boeing Aircraft in Tacoma where she was one of the legendary "Rosie the Riveter" crews.
After the war, Betty returned to South Dakota where she met and married Lyle J. Puettman (The One True Love of her life in 1947). They moved to Casper, Wyoming to start their family of six-Carol, Marjorie, and Steven, twins Jolene and Joseph, and Sandra. Lyle and Betty raise their family on Chestnut Street, where the home remains the center of activity for family and friends. Betty and Lyle were lifelong active members in local VFW's and were founding members of Post #10677. Betty served two terms as President of the Ladies Auxiliary.
Betty loved family activities and enjoyed the happy summer times at Alcova Lake camping, boating, and fishing (especially when she caught the biggest fish.) Elk hunting and the annual pheasant hunt in South Dakota were also highlights each fall. Grandma enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and their families, and she especially loved travelling to watch grandchildren's sporting events. She was known for her legendary cribbage skills, and everyone wanted to be Grandma's partner. Betty's favorite pastime was using her "mojo" to find the luckiest slot machine in any casino-anywhere at anytime.
Betty is survived by daughters Carol Holt (Max), Marge Howard, Jolene Cotton, and Sandy Puettman. Son, Joseph Puettman (Linda) as well as 9 grandchildren (Aerron, Joey, Josh, Merlin, Michael, Nicole, Patrick, Tricia, and Tonya); 12 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; as well as her sister-in-law, Rae Doty, 2 nephews with grand nephews and nieces.
