Betty Ortega, 83, of Casper, Wyoming passed away at her home October 20, 2017 from a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Flora Elizabeth (Betty) Trujillo was born October 1, 1934 to Josephina (Josie) Garcia Trujillo and Anastacio Trujillo in Cheyenne Wyoming.
Betty met the love of her life, Anastacio " Tacho" Ortega, in Cheyenne, WY and they were married in August of 1953. Their family moved to Casper in 1969.
Betty was the matriarch of the family. She was always there to help anyone and was a very good listener. Everyone she came to know loved her and she loved them. No one ever left Betty's house hungry.
She was a long-time member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Her faith was second to none.
Betty retired from the Natrona County School District in 1999 where she was the manager of the Kelly Walsh cafeteria. She loved to visit with all of the kids and made sure they ate lunch whether they had money or not. Teachers and former students still remember her kind and generous heart today.
Betty spent many hours volunteering at St. Vincent De Paul thrift store, making baptism bibs for the church, and making food for members of the church. Her kind heart and generous manner will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her sons, Ron (Kim) Ortega of Casper, Larry Ortega of Casper and Ernie (Jackie) Martinez of Casper. Grandchildren, Janis (Mike) Hammond of Highlands Ranch, CO, Ashley Martinez of Las Vegas, NV, Natalie Brown (Jay) of Aldie, VA, Lindsay Bright (Wes) of Chattanooga, TN and Mercedes (Travis) Ortega of Casper; a sister Annie Valdez of Cheyenne, WY and several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Anastacio in 2002; brothers, Paul and Richard Trujillo.
We would like to thank the staff at Garden Square for the excellent care they gave our mom. They opened up their hearts and made her a part of their wonderful family. A special "Thank You" to Ron, Kim and Mercedes for selflessly supporting and taking care of mom. You made sure she was happy and comfortable and that she had the best care anyone could possibly have.
A rosary will be held Thursday, October 26 at 7:00pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions Chapel. A Mass of Celebration will be held Friday, October 27 at 10:30am at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with lunch to follow in the church basement.
