Betty D. Hazen, 92, of Casper passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019.
Betty Hazen was born in Glenrock Wyoming on June 10, 1927. She was the oldest of three children from Chester and Jessie Dewees. Her family then moved to Merriman, Nebraska, where she attended school, graduating in 1944. She also attended Chadron State Teacher's college to teach a rural school when World War II created a shortage of teachers. She taught one year, then moved to Douglas WY, where her father worked for the railroad.
In 1946, she met her husband, Claude Hazen, and married in May in Douglas. They later moved to Casper, where they raised two sons Allan and Gary. Betty started working for Wyoming State Employment Security Commission in 1962 and retired after 30 years. Betty is a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church.
After retirement, she was involved with Casper Antique and Collectors Club, Meadowlarks Senior Group, the Senior Center, and Low Vision Support Group. Most important in her lifetime was spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband Claude, Parents, Sister Dorothy Lang, and Brother Blaine Dewees. She is survived by her sons, Al (Charla), Gary (Micky), four Grandchildren Vince (Dana) Honolulu HI, Beth Pendelton IN, Aubrey (Adam) Pauli and Amber (Tyler) Bodily. She has eleven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Restoration Church. Donations in her memory can be made to the Natrona County Senior Center or Allen H. Stewart Lions Blind Camp.
