On Sunday, April 7, 2013, Betty Arlene Pryde Canfield, 90 was called home.
Betty was born in Stroudsburg, PA to the late Alton and Bessie May (Gere) Pryde on April 1st, 1923 which was both Easter Sunday and April Fool's day. She was the youngest of threechildren and was idolized and of course spoiled, by her two brothers.
Betty spent her youth mostly in New York State and graduated High School in 1941 from Southside Highin Elmira, NY. On May 23, 1942, she married Rex Canfield in Elmira, NY before he went into the 2nd Air Corp.
Betty first came to Casper in January of 1943 on the train, with temperatures at least40 degrees below zero, to be with Rex while he served at the Casper Air Base. After severalmoves and upon Rex's discharge in 1946, they made Casper their permanent home.
Betty and Rex owned, operated and/or built numerous businesses throughout the years.Including: Fisher Grocery in North Casper, 15th Street Grocery, Brig Drive In, Rex's In and Out,The Lounge, The Red Barn, Beef N Taco's plus many others.Before retiring to take care of Rex due to his failing health, she worked at Smith's Food in the Customer service department for many years.
Betty is survived by her daughter Dawn DeFreece and husband Mike, Granddaughter Jenniferand great granddaughter Brylee all of Casper.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Chuck and Howard. Son Ron and Husband of 55 years Rex: and companion, John Vesey.
The family wishes to thank Doctors Lloyd and Cotant, along with the caring staff and volunteers of theCentral Wyoming Hospice and Transitions program.
Memorial service will be 11 AM Monday, April 15, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home.
