Bernard J. Struempf

Bernard James Struempf, known as Ben to family and friends, past away Monday March 21, 2016 at the age of 78. He was born January 4, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri the first of three sons of Bernard and Elizabeth Struempf. Ben grew up in Missouri and lived a few years in Arkansas. He attended Missouri University in Columbia, Missouri majoring in horticulture. He married Dorothy Darlene McCown May 28, 1960 in Mexico, Missouri. Dorothy was a Registered Nurse until she retired and together they had six children.

Ben worked as a landscape architect, built golf courses in Missouri, Nebraska and Wyoming. In 1970 he moved his family to Lakewood, Colorado after his last child was born and became the superintendent of Green Gables Country Club until 1979. He moved to Fremont County Wyoming to remodel nine holes and add nine holes to Riverton County Club working with Watson Golf Course Construction. He purchased 160 acres on the west side of Ocean Lake. Ben went on to create Arid Landscape Construction Company and did landscaping all over Wyoming until the early 1990's. Ben and Dorothy farmed, raised cattle, sheep, and Missouri Fox-trotters. Ben had a passion for horses and showed horses under the name Ocean Lake Foxtrotters until 2003. Before he retired Ben was the superintendent of Riverton Country Club. Ben and Dorothy purchased more land around Ocean Lake and adjacent property.

Ben loved to fish and hunt and enjoyed his boats and family outings. He was very family oriented and enjoyed barbecuing for family gatherings. He had been a member of the Riverton Artists Guild and up to his death a member of the Riverton Rock Club.

He was preceded in death by his brother David and both of his parents. Ben is survived by wife Dorothy, children James Struempf and lifetime partner Sandy Phillips; Deborah Struempf and her daughter Angela Denke, husband Richard Denke and their daughter Amelia and Richard's daughter Leslie, Deb's daughter Renee and husband Michael Gomez-Montez; Ronald Struempf and wife Judy, their daughter Jessica and Judy's son Nathan and Nathan's daughter Fidelity; Sandra Trierweiler and her husband Pat Trierweiler and their daughters Christiana and husband Josh Clemenz and Shelly Trierweiler; Kathleen Cooper and husband Tony Cooper and their children Curt Cooper and his partner Rachael, Nichole Cooper, and Dylan Cooper; and Lawrence Struempf and his daughters Ashlee Langstrom-Struempf and Treasure Struempf; and brother Tom Struempf, wife Carolyn and sons David, Daniel and Michael.

The family is requesting instead of flowers that individuals donate to a charity of their choice in honor of Ben. There will be no memorial services or funeral as the family has opted for a private ceremony.
