Benjamin Harrison Howard II (Ben) our beloved father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather was born October 30, 1919 to Benjamin and Clara Howard in Rawlins Wyoming. He passed away February 10, 2016 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. He is proceeded in death by his wife, parents and sister.
Ben served his country with the Merchant Marines during World War II. He didn't talk about his service very often but was very proud to serve his country. Ben was truly one of the few remaining "Greatest Generation". He worked for Marathon Oil Company, starting out in the oil fields and over the years was promoted to Regional Personnel Manager for the Rocky Mountains. He retired at 55 to hunt and fish and did just that for many years. He spent the last couple of years at Mountain Plaza Assisted Living. He truly loved it there and called it his home. He was a a kind, funny, never knew a stranger kind of guy. The world has lost a little piece of good.
He is survived by his son Ben Howard III, his daughter Barbara Whitaker, grandsons Jed Whitaker an Ben Howard IV, great grandsons Jackson Whitaker, Ben Howard V, Hayden Howard, Luke Whitaker, Ryder Howard and Finn Whitaker and his special nephew Richard Glenn and niece Patty Garguilo who did a lot for him in his later years. He was loved by all.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, February 15, 2016 at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery with military honors.
