Barbara Anne Brenner, 66, of Casper went to heaven Saturday, September 21, 2013. For nineteen months she battled a difficult illness. Although cancer took her body, it never took her joy.
Barbara was born to the late Nicholas Day and Mary Savo, October 27, 1946, in Youngstown, Ohio. Barb graduated from Struthers High School in 1964.
Life is full of choices, and Barb made the right ones. After marrying, she relocated to Casper, WY. There Barbara chose her most cherished job – motherhood. She led her life as a shining example of love for her three children. Barb happily worked as a classroom teacher's assistant and a certified nurse's assistant, both full time, to support her family as a single mother.
Barb chose to give her children the best she could, while giving herself only necessities, and to live every day with a smile on her face no matter what challenges she was facing. Barb could find joy in the smallest of things. She loved to cook and would spend hours making delicious meals for her family and friends. Barb loved her dachshund, Duncan, and her children often teased that he was her favorite child. She enjoyed swimming at the Athletic Club, going to the movies, fishing with friends, traveling to new places, and going out for lunch. Barb also loved spotting butterflies, watching birds, and planting flowers. Most of all, Barb loved doing things with and for her children, helping her daughter Sara decorate cakes, her daughter Shannon in her classroom, and her son Shane with his passion for automobiles.
Barb chose to live her life serving others. She chose love. She chose kindness. She chose hard work. If you have met Barb, you have felt God's love. Her children did not choose to let Barb go, but they choose now to honor her legacy by living their lives guided by her example.
Barb is survived in death by her adoring children: Sara (Brenner) Sullivan, Shannon (Brenner) Nelson, and Shane Brenner. She is also survived by one and eight-ninths grandchildren: Orion Sullivan and Emily Nelson, as well as two loving sons-in-law: Trentin Sullivan and Chad Nelson, a sister, Cindy Istvanik, a niece and two nephews, and extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Casper Humane Society, 849 East E Street, Casper, WY 82601.
A viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home from 11 am to 1 pm on Monday, September 30. Services will be held the same day at Newcomer Funeral Home at 2 pm followed by a burial at Highland Cemetery.
