Anna 'Catherine' Korenke

Anna Catherine (Drummond) Korenke, a lifelong Wyoming resident, completed her journey on this earth on March 23, 2012 at the age of 94. She was born in Meeteetse in 1917; her father, Adam Drummond, emigrated from Scotland in the early 1900's, went back to Scotland in 1912 to marry Anne Laurence, and returned to Meeteetse where they raised three children, Catherine and her brother Robert and sister Isabel.

Catherine met her husband, Edward Korenke, while working in the Post Office in Meeteetse. Ed was working in the oil field and came in to mail letters home to Phillipsburg, Kansas. It was love at first sight and they married in 1937. Ed continued to work in the oil field and they lived in Powell, Wyoming and Cut Bank, Montana. Following the death of her mother, Ed and Catherine returned to Meeteetse to help her dad manage the farm and settled into the family home. Ed and Catherine's three children, Robert, Marie and David were all born in Cody.

Following the death of Catherine's father, the family moved to Philipsburg, Kansas but Ed missed Wyoming, so he found work with BJ Hughes in Worland and then transferred to Casper in 1959. Their home at 11th Street and Country Club was filled with the joy of family and friends. Catherine and Ed were inseparable and when Ed passed away suddenly in 1982 it was a difficult adjustment for her as they had been married for 45 years.

Catherine was a wonderful homemaker and loved to spend time with kids and grandkids, doing beautiful embroidery and needlepoint, and volunteering for her church. She also worked outside the home, at Ben Franklin and then retired from Montgomery Ward. She was a woman of strong faith and a member of the Episcopal Church before joining the United Methodist congregation. Catherine loved to garden and had the most beautiful flowers for miles around! She was a woman of impeccable integrity, honesty and ethics and was an inspiration to her family. She remained active and lived alone until the age of 91 when she finally agreed she needed more help and moved to assisted living; she spent her last years in the wonderful care of Life Care Center of Casper and the family is deeply appreciative of the love and attention she received as a resident of Life Care Center.

She is survived by Robert and Linda Korenke of Idaho Falls, David and Nancy Korenke of Casper and Marie Gant of Phoenix, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her keen wit and dry sense of humor stayed with her to the very end; she lived a full and glorious life and will be dearly missed.

Services will be held at Christ United Methodist Church at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday March 29th.

In lieu of flowers, Catherine requested that donations be made to Christ United Methodist Church; 1868 South Poplar, Casper, 82601.
