Ann F. Smith

August 15, 1935 — December 25, 2015

Ann Frances Smith, S.F.O., also known as Ann Frances Maria Smith Julian went home to the Lord she tried to serve. (S.F.O. means she was a Secular Franciscan.) She died on December 25, 2015 at Life Care Center in Casper. She was born to Charles and Frances Julian Smith. Ann was born in the United States, where she received most of her education. Her favorite college: the University of Washington. She took classes in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. She was a teacher at Dean Morgan, with 7th graders. She loved each and every one of her students and their friends. She was also a volunteer at the Wyoming Medical Center. She worked with the patients, whom she loved. God gave her a gift with people, young and old, and in between.

Her mother and she flew into Mexico City several times and went out from there. She went alone to Mexico to go to Guadalajara for a school term. She had decided to move permanently to Guadalajara, but a friend advised against it. Sorrowfully, she scuttled that idea. With the drugs and violence, it turned out for the best. The Mexican drug trade and violence resulted from the high demand for drugs in the United States. She greatly loved Mexico, but loved the United States more. She was not planning to give up her American citizenship.

She became the Catholic she wanted to be most of her life. She took instruction from Father Gene, now the late Monsignor Gene Sullivan. She frequently quoted things he said in his teaching. He had provided many books she could check out and read. She did! He received her into the Church just before Christmas. What a Christmas present that was! That was at St. Anthony's.

Once when she was in Rome, Pope John Paul II came to her and held her hand. She went to Rome once with her mother. Other times, she went with a group, although she was at home enough that she would go off by herself.
She was a member of both St. Anthony's and St. Patrick's. Ann was a member of the Beta chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa and was their Chaplain.

Ann was preceded in death by all grandparents, her parents, her brothers; Franklin Smith and Richard Smith. She is survived by her best friend from high school, Dorothy Adams of Bremerton, Washington, the Spechts, the Byrds and the Garrets all from Casper.

In lieu of flowers, Ann wishes that donations be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
