Angus Mcleod Morrison

March 3, 1926 — October 25, 2014

Native Casper resident Angus McLeod "Angie" Morrison passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Central Wyoming Hospice. He was 88.

Memorial services will be held at Oregon Trail State Veterans' Cemetery this Friday, October 31st at 1:00 P.M.

Born March 3, 1926, Angus loved Wyoming, Casper and his family.

As a child, Angus lived with his family in the basement apartment of Washington School, located in downtown Casper where Wells Fargo Bank is now located. One of his first jobs was delivering newspapers in the Sandbar's red light district.

He graduated from Natrona County High School and joined the Army serving with the 4th Armored Division in the Occupation Forces from 1945 -1947. His duties included patrolling the countryside for German soldiers and he guarded the Lipizzaner stallions at Neuschwanstein Castle near the German-Austrian boarder. In addition to serving his country, Angus also served his beloved Casper community. In the 1950s, he learned to fly and was one of the first pilots in the Wyoming Wing of the Civil Air Patrol.

He worked at Texaco Refinery for 36 years until its closure and then at Little America Refinery until he retired in 1997. During his time at Texaco, he was an active member of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers International Union. He also spent autumns as a hunting guide in the Hoback region.

Angie loved to ski and relished powder turns and swapping stories with ski friends. He was the president of the Casper Mountain Ski Club, skiing on Bumps-a-Daisy (near the Nordic center), Togwotee Pass, Ryan Park, Jackson Hole and Alta and was instrumental in establishing ski instruction in the early days on Casper Mountain. During the 1950s, he and other ski club members hauled busloads of kids from the Armory building to the Nursery Run (Casper Mountain's 'sledding hill') and taught them to ski. He helped form the Central Wyoming Ski Corporation, the group that developed Hogadon Ski Area. With other ski club members, Angie chose the slopes, cut trees and cleared timber for the ski area.

He met his wife, Mary Lou, at Hogadon and they were married in the First Christian Church in 1963. Five years later their daughter, Robyn, was born. They spent many weekends camping and backpacking together in Wyoming's wilderness. Always up for adventure, Angie even tried his hand at theater participating in community plays.

As an instructor and a 40-year member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America, he taught many Casperites to carve their first turns at Hogadon. He served as President of the Casper Mountain Racers, traveled to ski races with his daughter and competed in the annual City Ski Meet. He skied until the age of 85. In 2010, he joined a WWII Veterans' Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

Angie enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, making chokecherry wine, a good Halloween costume, and spending time at his Casper Mountain cabin with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Isabelle Mathieson Morrison, his father Angus M. Morrison, Sr., and his brother Charles "Chuck" Morrison. Angus is survived by his daughter, Robyn Morrison, of Denver and his wife of 51 years, Mary Lou. His family and friends will greatly miss his gentle spirit, sharp wit and humor.

Memorials may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice, Casper College Veterans' Club, 125 College Dr., Casper, 82601, or a charity of choice.
