Alvin Willis Duncan, Jr. January 9, 1956 - November 2, 2020
Alvin passed away at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper Wyoming on November 2, 2020 and cremation has taken place. At his request, there will be no services.
Alvin "Al" Duncan was born on January 9, 1956 in Torrington, Wyoming to Alvin, "Bud" and Delores (Popp) Duncan. He grew up on the family farm near Lingle, Wyoming with his brother, Jim and sisters, Pam, Cindy, Kathi, and Ginger. Al received his education at Lingle Schools, graduating in 1974.
Al married Tina Mooney at the family home on September 10, 1977. To this union, one son was born, Christopher Duncan on February 20, 1978. Although they later divorced, Alvin and Tina remained close friends throughout their lives.
Alvin worked for his father at Valley Line Construction, alongside his brother Jim, Uncle Butch, Cousin Bill, and nephew Lee. Together, they dug and buried telephone and fiber optical lines across the panhandle. Al was a telephone pole climbing champion and never stopped until the job was done.
Al later went on to college and received his Associates Degree in Biology from Eastern Wyoming College in 1990. He continued his education at the University of Wyoming in Laramie graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science: Wildlife, Fish Biology and Management.
Alvin took great pride in his career with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. He was a Supervisory Fish Biologist from 2002 until his retirement in 2019. In 2014, Al was one of 3 people from his region to be nominated to attend the National Conservation Training in West Virginia. He was very honored at this opportunity and was chosen to give a presentation to the entire conference. Al was immensely proud of his work, and at one point, he helped to reintroduce a certain species of fish to the area. Watching fisherman catch the fish that he raised from babies brought him great joy and he loved to show these pictures off to his friends and family.
Al was a patient, kind, strong and hard-working man. He was always smiling and always had something positive to say, even while he was fighting his hardest against cancer. Alvin loved his family and friends and tried to stay in contact with everyone as much as possible. Outdoors is where Alvin loved to spend his time. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, camping and most of all, riding his motorcycle. He put his two wheels on the pavement any chance that he got, stopping to take beautiful pictures of the scenery, and visiting friends along his route. He made life-long friends on many of those rides and made a point to be involved in their lives. After he received the news of his cancer, he spent his free time riding up and down the coast of California and making the most of the time that he had, with the people who loved him.
Alvin had an incredibly special bond with his grandson Bo and was able to celebrate a great accomplishment with him on a very memorable motorcycle trip to Washington D.C... Al was extremely proud of Bo and took great pride in watching him become the man that he is today.
He will be greatly missed by his son and daughter in-law Chris and Melissa, grandchildren, Bo, Videl, and Caiden, along with his bonus family, Tina, Marsha, Paige, and Forrest.
Alvin is also survived by his father Bud and stepmother Betsy Duncan, sisters Pam (Roger) Peterson, Cindy (Charlie) Sharp, Kathi (Gary) Rickard, and Ginger (Vern) Jones and sister in-law Mollie Duncan. His stepbrothers, Ken (Ruby) Starrett, Mike (Tammy) Starrett and Don (Christine) Starrett. He is survived by his cousins, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
