Alta E. Tevis, of Casper, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2016, at Life Care Center of Casper. She was 97 years old.
She was born December 27, 1918, in Wauneta, KS, the eldest daughter of Eldon Davis and Bertha Canfield Davis. She graduated from Colorado Springs HS in Colorado Springs, CO, and attended Union College in Lincoln, NE. She was baptized into the Seventh-Day Adventist Church on May 20, 1939.
Alta married Charles L. Tevis on May 31, 1944, they had seven children. She worked for years as a full time nurse at Bethel Manor in Evansville, IN. In 1989 she retired and relocated back to Casper (Charles was transferred from WY to IN in 1961).
She is survived by her children Elouise Tevis White (FL), Clifford Tevis (IN), Laine Tevis Appel (IN), Lawrence Tevis (IN) and LuAlta Tevis Ferguson (IN); grandchildren: Angie, Jacqui, Lisa, Nikki, Valerie, Cameron, Kandi, Tim, Ryan and Scott; and great-grandchildren: Tiffany, Rachel, Trinity, Casey, Grant, Alex, Emily, Cade, Sophia…and one on the way. Her sister-in-law, Lorena Tevis, of Casper, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Tevis (1983/IN), her sisters, LaVerne Ward-Coshow (2011/CA) and Euna Cummings (2009/KS), her son, Clayton Tevis (1999/AZ), daughter, Charlene Tevis Dillingham (May 2016/IN) and her grandson, Jonathan White (2004/GA).
She had a zest for life, education and travel, and successfully fulfilled a longtime goal of visiting all 50 states!
Funeral services were held at the Casper Seventh-Day Adventist Church in conjunction with Newcomer Funeral Home. She was laid to rest at Wyoming Memorial Gardens. The family is grateful to her Seventh-day Adventist family and all of the incredible professionals at Meadow Wind Assisted Living, Wyoming Medical Center and Life Care Center of Casper.
