Alice Irene (Spencer) Barr was born in Glenrock Wyoming on November 19, 1930 to William and Alice (Whittecar) Spencer. Alice attended school in Glenrock through the tenth grade. On June 7th, 1947, Alice married Wilbur (Willy) Dean Barr. They had two children, Elaine Kay and Roger. Alice and Willy divorced after twenty-seven years of marriage.
Alice held many jobs and lived many places throughout her life. Her time working as a CNA was her greatest accomplishment.
Alice's daughter, Elaine, passed away at the age of six on February 16, 1954. Her son, Roger, also passed away on August 20, 1984. Although their deaths deeply impacted her, Alice lived her life with incredible determination and without self-pity. Her strength and will to carry on was unimaginable.
Although Alice was never rich, she was more than willing to help anyone in need. She never met a child or a dog that she couldn't instantly win over. She was convinced her love for fishing was hereditary and couldn't understand why not everyone shared in its joy. She was pretty sure something was wrong with them. Her imagination and sense of humor was fierce and incredibly contagious. If she was able to make you laugh, she was your friend for life. She was definitely a V.I.P. to those who came to know her.
In the last year of her life, Alice lost her ability to see and moved to Lifecare Center of Casper. She loved being there so much that she once stated, "Where else can you order fifty different kinds of drinks for free!" Ordering "off the menu" was her thing. Never one to conform, always appreciative of the great food. In her time at Lifecare, Alice found safety. She formed wonderful friendships with the many people who were involved in her care. It goes without saying, she was tough on them at times, but they dealt with her in the most compassionate and dignified way, never disappointing!
Alice spent the last months of her life enjoying family and friends. She constantly laughed and shared wonderful stories. Some were true, some were not. That was the beauty of Alice, she had everyone guessing to the end.
On the final day that Alice passed away, she was able to say how excited she was to see her children again and give them kisses. Oh, the time they must be having!
Alice was preceded in death by her parents and her two children. Alice leaves behind a brother, William (Bill) Braydon Spencer and his wife Karen of Blackwell, Oklahoma, a sister, Dorothy Ann Kvenild and her husband, J.R., of Casper, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
