Alice is survived by her children, daughter Linda (Dick) Vandeveer of Casper and son Kerr Hodge of Willets, California, grand daughter Jennifer (Mat) Edwards of Texas, 4 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews in Canada and Ireland.
My wonderful, loving mother passed away, in my arms, September 24, 2012 in her own wee bed, in the house we shared and the room she had loved for 12 years.
Mom was born in Antrim, Northern Ireland to William and Isabella Kerr McNish, both transplanted Scots. Mom lived in Ireland on a large farm with her 7 brothers and sisters until she met and married another Scot, William Hodge in 1941. The jokes between an Irish lass and a Scottish man lasted until Dad died in 1979.
Mom, Dad, and Dad's 2 sisters and brother, with families in tow, all immigrated to Canada after WWII. After a few years Mom and Dad, with my brother Kerr and I, moved to California, then Australia twice and New Zealand once. Mom loved the trips and the adventures but always returned to California. Dad finally, in 1978, convinced Mom to retire from her beloved position of placement coordinator at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, and move to Mayne Island, off the coast of British Columbia, Canada. Another adventure with the chance to be closer to Dad's much loved clan in Canada! With Dad's passing, Mom came to Wyoming for a bit, then returned to Canada and then back to the house she had kept in Stockton.
Mom was always on the go, traveling back to Ireland, Scotland, Europe, Canada, trips to Wyoming, and frequent jaunts to Reno to gamble. Mom moved to Casper permanently in 2000. Mom was loving, funny, intensely smart, feisty, full of fun and laughter, loved to teaser her granddaughter Jennifer Edwards and her great grandchildren Danny, Jeremy, Clayton and Sami. She was curious and interested in everything, never let anything get her down, was always busy, absolutely loved her family and was a compassionate and kind person. She was thrilled by her great great grandchildren, Hayden and Stetson.
Mom lived her 97 years pretty much on her own terms, she told us she had a great life, and was giving advice and directions to me up to the last day. She was fond of saying "I enjoyed the day". Mom was my best friend and most avid supporter, I will miss her everyday of my life. Love you Mom.
