Albert F. Stoick , 89, of Glenrock, WY passed away August 9, 2015.
He was born May 27, 1926 in McIntosh, South Dakota, the son of Albert and Rose (Herian) Stoick. He graduated from McIntosh High School in 1944. He served in the US Navy as a Seaman First Class during WWII from 1944-1946. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he earned a B. S. in Mining Engineering (with honors) in 1951 from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, then earned a Master's Degree in Mining Engineering in 1952 from Stanford University (with honors). He was also a professor at the University of California - Berkley.
He married Ethel (Mickey) Hale on September 21, 1952 in Custer, SD. They had two children from their union, Georgiana Rose born November 7, 1953 in Berkley, CA and Kenneth Francis born July 19, 1956 in Lovell, WY. He Lived in Edgemont, SD, Moorcroft, WY and has resided in Glenrock for the past 45 years.
Al had a long and successful career in the mining industry working with such companies as Homestake Mining Company, Balboa Mining and Development Company, Susquehanna-Western, Inc, Nuclear Dynamics, and with the Wyoming DEQ. He was instrumental in the development of several uranium projects in Wyoming and the western region, as well as many reclamation projects in the mining industry.
Al was deeply involved in Converse County serving as a Converse County Commissioner, on the Glenrock City Council, as School Board member for Glenrock School District #2, the Converse County Tourism Board, Glenrock Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee, Glenrock Library Board, Glenrock Economic Development Board, Lion's Club Board, and the Glenrock American Legion.
Al is survived by one sister, Margaret Ann Grove, Billings, MT; his son Kenneth F. Stoick and wife (Diana) of Casper; his son-in-law Mark Stewart of Cheyenne; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Stacey Hoyt of Castle Rock, CO; Chris and wife (Nikki) and their son Chase of Castle Rock, CO; Kaitlin and her husband (Mike) MacPherson and their son Sean Stewart of Laramie; Abby Stewart of Denver, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mickey, his daughter, Georgiana, one sister, Theresa Glines, and three brothers, Herbert, James and Clarence Stoick.
Funeral Services will take place Monday, August 17, 2015 at 6 PM at the Glenrock Middle School Auditorium, 645 S. 3rd Street in Glenrock, WY. Private Graveside Services will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Glenrock Senior Center or the Laramie Peak Humane Society/Converse County Humane Society.
