Abner "Dale" Lewallen, age 94, passed away June 2, 2016 at Life Care Center of Casper with Phyllis, his wife of 72 years, by his side.
Abner was born February 15, 1922 in Casper to Abner and Beulah (Divelbiss) Lewallen. He was the third child of seven children. He attended schools in Casper and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1940. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army Airforce Corp. He was a gunner on the B-29 during World War II. While he was in the service, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Marvel.
After his honorable discharge he returned home to Casper, Wyoming. He went to work for Texaco Refinery, where he held the job as a Instrument Man. Abner retired from Texaco Refinery after 39 years of service. His job enabled him to provide for his wife and seven children. Abner enjoyed bowling, fishing, and golf. Abner was well known for his great sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, Abner was also preceded in death by three brothers, Orville, Neal, and Bob; and two sisters, Thelma and Dorothy. He is survived by his wife Phyllis; his sister, Mary Lou; his seven children: Kathy, Bob (Akemi), Mike (Leslyn), Tom (Mary Sue), Greg (Renie), Ron (Tam), and Steve (Julie). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many extended family members.
Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic College in Lander in Abner's memory.
Mass will be celebrated at 10am, June 13th at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with burial to follow at Oregon Trail State Veteran's Cemetery.
