Clay Winston Carr

August 3, 1962 — May 29, 2024

Clay Winston Carr was born August 3, 1962, to Don and Arleen Carr in Casper, WY. He was named after the bronc rider, Winston Bruce, by his dad. He left this world May 29th, 2024.

Clay often had a lack of consideration for early morning conversations, including his last, with his sister Tammy that started with, “Good morning Worthium Steel. This is Kinbusser, your little brat brother. What are you doing?” I would reply with “Clay its 4:00 in the morning." This didn’t halt the conversation and he’d continue with, “I know, but you’re an early riser and I just wanted someone to talk to.” Clay was quite the socialite and made friends wherever he went (even some he probably shouldn’t have befriended).

With all Clay’s trials and medical misfortunes that he was presented with, he would bounce back like a Jack- in-the-Box with spunk, his jolly smile, and a new outlook on a new day. He had an incredible tolerance to pain as many of his misfortunes would have killed a normal person. Clay was a special soul and could be very eccentric, stubborn, and sly.

Clay had a special love for his Cockatiels and kitties. He would talk to them like they were special confidants. Clay had two lifelong friends that were close to his heart that he retained throughout his life: Chub Stewart from Glenrock and Paul Gottfried, his cruising buddy in Casper. Clay was often found having early morning “cruising with Paul adventures and headed to Perkins for Coffee.” He loved going to Paul’s for cookouts and some of their family meals. Both Paul and Chub were known by Clay as his “Bros.” Clay was also known throughout Casper from his expansive blue tricycle travels to the many numerous gas stations…. loitering and making new friends. Thankfully for his family many of these people took Clay under their wing and looked out for his well-being.

Clay also had a great love of music; especially old time 50s Rock and Roll and Old Country. Some of his favorite TV shows included Happy Days with The Fonz and Star Trek, all of which he collected memorabilia including Mr. Spock. And watched on repeat and could give you a play by play of American Graffiti. Clay decorated his home quite nicely with the things he loved: the sea, sailors, ships, and light houses along with old model tractors, specifically the Alice Chalmers from his memories of dragging meadows with his dad on the Old CY ranch for the BB Brooks Ranch where he grew up. Clay enjoyed ranch life immensely and would remind all of us that he was hard Corp ranch people.

Clay was also well known for his artistic abilities, and he enjoyed working with watercolors, chalk, and sketching. He did some amazing cartoon characters, wildlife, and country scenes and most recently was expanding his ability and skill at Art 321. He was also very musically inclined and had a great tenor voice and would enjoy serenading you with many old songs, with a good sense of rhythm and he loved to dance in his day.

Clay’s Mom, Arleen, worked very hard keeping him safe, sheltered, and well-kept always: harping at him to straighten his collar, keeping his face shaved and wiping his face. This most likely explains why he’d given her the nickname Ms. Particular. When Mom was no longer able to care for Clay his niece, Jamie, aka, Kalamazoo, became his new guardian angel in every way and did an exceptional job aside from the many gray hairs, late night drives to unlock his door when he’d locked himself out or throughout the numerous trials in keeping Clay’s home clean and safe.

Family was very important to him and always made his face light up. Clay thought very highly of all his nieces, nephews and brother-in-law, Mark Uhrich, who would quietly tease him to make him feel important. Then of course his sister, Tammy Uhrich and Kathy Adler “Threnual.” His Dad, Don, had nick names for everyone, and Clay could make up some pretty good ones himself: Abbaneezer (Abby) and Kalamazoo (Jamie).

Since his mom’s passing in 2022 Clay thrived with his newfound independence. CUNNING Smile! He was like a fifteen-year-old boy in an old man’s body, somewhat sneaky and sly and more technologically advanced than any of us gave him credit for. He learned to gamble, unbeknownst to any of us, taking midnight rides on his trike and blocking calls from family and friends when he didn’t like what they had to say or approve of rules that they were trying to enforce to keep him safe.

Clay will be missed deeply. He was full of heart and soul and never in his eyes met a stranger that didn’t become a friend.

WE LOVE YOU CLAY!
