On October 7, 1925, in the house at 910 Chestnut Street in Casper, Wyoming, a baby girl named Esther Pearl made her entrance into this world-the daughter of William and Edna Barringer. Sixteen months later her brother, Jim, joined the family.
When Esther was two years old the family moved to Tacoma, Washington. They moved around quite a bit so Esther attended several different elementary schools. She loved to sing so all through her years in school she was always in Glee Club or Choir. In 1943 at the age of seventeen, Esther graduated from Federal Way High School, located between Tacoma and Seattle. There were thirty members in the graduation class. She went from a classroom to an office next door to become secretary to the Superintendent of that school district. That was the beginning of a secretarial career that spanned sixty years.
In 1946, the family moved back to Casper, and in 1948 she married Carl Holder. They moved to Tacoma, but later moved back to make Casper their permanent home. In 1962 she married Clyde Miller. Esther was a member of Winter Memorial Presbyterian Church for fifty-four years where she sang in and directed the choir, taught Sunday School, led a Bible study class, was a Deacon and an Elder. She later became a member of Christ United Methodist Church where she served as a liturgist. In 2002, at the age of seventy-seven, Esther retired after twenty-five years with the City of Casper.
In 2014, Esther left the home she lived in and raised her family in for fifty-six years and made her home at Park Place. She joined group activities, was President of the resident council and made many new friends.
Esther has two daughters, Amy Brown and Jane Eckman; and two sons, Bill Holder and wife, Gayle, and Glen Holder and wife, Kathy. She has eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and February 2022 she become a great-great-granny. She now has four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Edna Barringer, her brother James Barringer and son in laws Loren Brown and Carl Eckman.
We would like to thank the staff at Park Place and Life Care for their love and care of our mother.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Christ United Methodist Church, 1868 S Poplar St #4509, Casper, WY 82601. A reception will follow immediately after.
