Shirley Ann Bergh

October 7, 1941 — April 22, 2024

Shirley (Engstrom, Zeidler) Bergh left this earthly world for greener pastures April 22, 2024, in hospice care in Casper, Wy.

Shirley was a true farm’her’ in every sense of the word. Born October 7, 1941, she grew up on the Bergh ranch near Redstone. She was a 4-H member and leader, showing many good Hereford steers and bulls, and later helping her girls with their projects. She loved horses and competed in high school rodeos, and for several years raised quarter horses and appaloosas. She always had dogs and raised some great Labs, Shiba Inus, and Malamutes. She loved her cows too and kept them well fed, along with many, many rabbits. She was happiest when outside working, and there weren't too many pieces of equipment she couldn't operate.

Shirley earned her nursing degree at Montana State University in 1963 and for a while worked for an eye doctor in Billings. She then came back to Sheridan County, married Robert Engstrom and became a farmer/rancher and full-time mom to her three daughters Katie, Ann Marie, and Susan. She later worked for many years at Sheridan Memorial hospital, many times on night duty. She was a great cook, and visitors seldom left her table without taking something home with them. She loved hunting and knew how to “fix” whatever was taken. Life “happens” and in 1984, Shirley married Ron Zeidler. They lived in town for a while before moving out to her beloved farm west of town. They later divorced. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandkids when she was able.

Shirley didn't go to church much, but she was a person of faith and deep convictions. She wanted to think God wore cowboy boots. She felt lucky to have accomplished some of her bucket list, most of which involved her animals.

Shirley spent the last of her months on AnnMarie’s little “farm” in Glenrock where she again enjoyed the company of ducks, chickens, geese and a horse. She received wonderful care from the staff at Central Wyoming Hospice, many of whom became good friends.

Shirley leaves three daughters, Katie of New Mexico, Ann Marie (Kurt) of Rolling Hills, Wyoming, and Susan of Plentywood. Grandchildren include Reed Engstrom of New Mexico, Tucker Nelson of Westby, Hannah Stockdill of Bozeman, and Nathen Morris of West Virginia. She is also survived by a sister Judy (Tom) Cheetham of Redstone and their family.

Preceded in death by her parents, Vincent & Dorothy Bergh of Redstone and a nephew Zach Cheetham of Hamilton, Mt. Cremation has taken place with private placement of ashes at a later time. She requested that no service be held. Any memorials may be sent to MSU Research or St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Research Hospital.
