Roger "Doc" Sybrant, 85, of Casper, passed away on December 1, 2023.
Roger was born on July 26, 1938, to Oscar W. Sybrant and Teckla H. Sybrant in Casper, Wyoming. Roger grew up and attended school in Casper. He enlisted in the Army National Guard of Wyoming in 1956 and was Honorably Discharged due to a previous injury. Roger attended Casper College where he was the President of the Art Club and editor of the Paper and Yearbook. Roger continued his education at the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistry graduating in the top ten percent of his class.
In June of 1963, Roger met and married his soulmate, Virginia Sybrant (Reynolds). After his 1964 graduation, the couple moved back to Casper and established a dental practice. Roger served as President of the Central Wyoming Dental Association and Wyoming Society of
Dentistry for Children. From 1971 to 1974, Doc was on the State Board of Examiners. Doc practiced dentistry with Virginia at his side in the same dental office for 40 years.
Roger became a Master Mason and Shriner in the late 1960s and early 70s and continued to serve for 50 years. He was dedicated to helping improve the lives of children through the Shrine organization. Over the years, Roger held many positions at the Casper Shrine Club and finally served as Potentate in 1995. Roger and Virginia traveled the country with the Korean Band and his Shriner Family creating a lifetime of memories.
As a lifelong native of Wyoming, Roger was an avid outdoorsman with a love for hunting and fishing. It brought him great joy to hunt with his family and teach his children lifelong hunting/fishing skills. He truly loved teaching his grandchildren how to fish. After retirement,
Roger and many of his good friends developed a weekly fishing group. Over the years, the fishing group would grow and change, but everyone was always welcome to join. Many memories were made in the fields of Oklahoma, and lakes, deserts, and mountains of Wyoming.
Roger and Ginny loved to cook and entertain people in their home. While Ginny was the gourmet cook, Roger was always by her side preparing food for family and friends. Roger with the teaching of Virginia, became a good cook, but maybe not a gourmet cook. No one ever left the Sybrant house hungry.
Roger is survived by his two children Scott Sybrant (Glenrock/Casper) and Grant (Nicole) Sybrant (Casper). Additionally, Doc had two grandchildren Brayden Sybrant and Brynn Sybrant. He is survived by his sister Ione Andrus of Casper, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held to honor Doc's life on December 8, 2023, at 10:00 am at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 710 E 2nd Street. A celebration of life will be held at the Casper Shrine Club, at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Shriners Travel Fund for Shrine Patients.
Roger's service will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time.
